The Washington football team taking an unlikely route to the I-H-S-A five-a state quarterfinals.
The Panthers starting senior quarterback went down with an injury in the second series of the season and they haven't missed a beat since.

When Washington senior quarterback Drew Schlink went down in the first half of the Panthers season opener. Darrell Crouch turned to a sophomore.

Washington football coach Darrell Crouch said, "I don’t know who was more worried Isaac or me when Isaac was like I have to go in. At first he waited for him to get up. He didn’t get up, he didn’t get up."

Washington Sophomore Quarterback Isaac Fisher said, " Oh no he’s down. I’m the backup quarterback so I have to get in there and see what I can do. Coach looked at me and said Fish get in there."

Crouch said, "He went in and you wouldn’t know it after that first series, took us down scored. Pretty calm made pretty good throws, made a couple good runs. "

Fisher has grown into the position as the season has gone on. Leading the Panthers to an 11 and Oh record and a quarterfinal match up with perennial state power Joliet Catholic.

Crouch said, "He’s walked the walk. He hasn’t had to try and rally other people. He’s played at a high level where he has that respect and leadership."

Since taking over the offense that first week at Springfield Isaac’s had the support of his coaches and teammates including the guy who he replaced.

Washington Senior Defensive Back Drew Schlink said, "Obviously he’s a sophomore quarterback so he’s fresh out there. Doesn’t know everything we’ve got so towards the beginning he needed a little mentor out there. So I was always on the sideline for any questions he had."

Fisher said, "Even when he was injured he was talking with me, telling me things that I could do to get better. He’s been helping me out a lot tonight. He’s still doing it. Right now he’s playing defensive back and when I come off the field he’s like you can do this in this situation."
