Rick LeHew starting to focus on his golf game. That's not as easy as it used to be for the 7-time men's city champ.

"The 8-year old is keeping Kim and I busy, running around, as we all know the kids...the priorities change," LeHew said. "I'm not playing as much golf but it feels more consistent. I've been hitting balls this week, and making putts. Really didn't make any mistakes."

LEHEW CG: 12

Rick could match daughter, Zofia, with his child-like love of the game. A love affair renewed as he shot a three-under par 68 to earn medalist honors.

" Four birdies and a bogey. I took care of the par 5's like you need to. 68, my wife says there might be a 67, so I don't know if it's medalist or not. Just get in match play next week and see what happens."
.
LeHew grew up on Kellogg Golf Course, and while he has always considered it his home course, LeHew has won 4 of his 7 city titles at Newman.

" You know anything can happen there (kellogg). A guy gets hot with a putter and you're out of the tournament. I've lost some close matches there where I didn't putt well and somebody else did. Here I think you've gotta hit the fairways, you've gotta hit the greens. You've gotta have a complete game here."

If LeHew can hit those fairways and greens enough next week, he would win a record eighth city title, passing Peoria golf legends Ron Ghidina and Gus Moreland.

" It would mean a lot, growing up in Peoria, and losing to Ron on his 7th and seeing the excitement of that. Meeting Mr. Gus Moreland and knowing what a great player he was. He was a dominant player in Texas and just to be tied with them is an honor. I want to get number 8, but it's like everybody says, it's not a cliche, you've gotta take one match at a time. You don't look ahead."
