The Normal Community football team hosts Crete–Monee Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
The Ironmen have options when it comes to their offense, and they use all three of them.
The Normal rushing game has been tough to stop.
The balanced option attack of quarterback Tre' Jones, running back Travis Mullin and Fullback Keegan McIntosh combined for over 350 yards on the ground and 6 touchdowns.
"If you take away one person, we have the other two," said Ironmen running back Travis Mullen. "If you take away two, we have the other person. You have to pick your poison pretty much."
"You know, running the option, you have to be able to handle all three aspects of it," said Normal Community coach Wes Temples. "Sometimes that becomes difficult, and the kids did a good job and didn't try to do more than their jobs. It really benefitted us in the end."
"I love scoring as a team either way, whoever scores, scores" said Normal Community quarterback Tre Jones. "I love to score myself but when Keegan or Travis score I love it just as much. I cheer almost more when they score than myself."
The win over Oak Forest earns the eleventh seeded Iron a home game against 9-1 Crete Monee.
"They're very, very, very athletic," said Temples. "They're aggressive. Defensively, they're all over the place. They swarm to the ball. They've got 11 people on top of you before you know it."
The Ironmen feel fully prepared for the playoffs thanks to a strong conference schedule. With opponents like Danville and cross-town rival Bloominton, those games have a playoff atmosphere even before the postseason begins.
"The Bloomington game is at ISU. There's a lot of people there. It's kind of like a pressure game. It's kind of like a playoff game and gets us ready so we're not as surprised when the playoffs come along," said Mullen.
