The Peorai Chiefs are having their worst attendance in three years. But let's put that in perspective. The past two years were the two biggest seasons ever for Chiefs attendance. The team set a franchise record with 274,000 fans a year ago. This year the team is hoping to draw 250,000 fans.
Why the drop in attendance? Two big reasons are the departure of fan favorite manager Ryne Sandberg and the wet weather. "Losing Ryno has had an impact, but more than that we've had so much rain with six rain-outs so far," says Chiefs President Rocky Vonachen.
What's been the Chiefs biggest draw this year? Free hot dogs! The Chiefs' Wednesday night free and all-you-can-eat hot dogs and peanuts has been a big hit and the team has also had good success with Kids-eat-free Sunday's at the ballpark.
