Notre Dame reaches state soccer final

The Peoria-Notre Dame soccer team (20-3-1) got two goals apiece from Cody Gilfillan and Michael Schrader for a 6-2 win over Westchester St. Joseph in the state 2A semifinals Friday in Naperville.

There was no score when Notre Dame's Gilfillan scored 31:23 into the game, sparking a cluster of 3 Irish goals in 6:35. 67-seconds after Gilfillan's tally, Dominic Bonello made it 2-0. Schrader's first goal of the game gave the Irish a 3-0 cushion heading to the locker room at halftime.

Notre Dame will face Sacred Heart Griffin (20-2-2) of Springfield in Saturday's final. Sacred Heart Griffin beat Chicago-Lake View, 5-1, in the other semifinal.
