Local drivers just can't seem to catch a break as they're riding the brake on many of the area's busiest roads. The summer road construction season is in full swing now.
Road crews are working around the clock on Interstate 74 near the 4-74 interchange and west to Kickapoo.
The 24-hour construction zone will last for about another two weeks.
Further west on 74, drivers will encounter more orange barrels near Knoxville as both directions are down to one lane for bridge construction.
The drive may be a little quicker this week on Illinois 29 as crews complete patching work from Gardner Lane to Route 6.
Still, the entire stretch to Mossville won't be finished until the end of November.
In Tazewell County, southbound Interstate 1-55 loses a lane at the Hopedale interchange for another week and a half for bridge painting.
And, drivers will be on the brakes taking U-S 150 or Meadows Avenue over Little Farm Creek in East Peoria.
The work will last through October.
