Former Secretary of State Colin Powell announced Sunday he will be voting for Barack Obama on Election Day.

The Republican General endorsed the Illinois Senator for President on the set of NBC's "Meet The Press" Sunday.

Locally, Democrats say the endorsement is huge, while Republicans say they aren't shocked.

"You've got a lot of...especially older voters who having Colin Powell's kinda stamp of approval means a lot because they may have been on the fence...does Barack Obama have enough experience," said State Senator Dave Koehler.

"Colin Powell as far as his social views is more of a moderate, he's not a very conservative individual when it comes to social views, so that's where it didn't surprise me," said Rudy Lewis, Peoria Co. Republican Chairman.

In his "Meet the Press" interview, Powell said he believes Barack Obama will bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to the table, while John McCain "will essentially execute the Republican Agenda."
