A Peoria man is in federal custody for allegedly using the Internet to threaten local police with death.
Police arrested 30-year old Jason Slater of 2308 West Ann Street Thursday night following an investigation into threatening e-mails sent to the Peoria Police Department.
On July 23rd, the department received two e-mails containing threats including: "I can't wait to start killing cops", and "all good serial killers take trophies and mine will be your bloody badges".
Police traced the e-mail messages to Slater's Ann Street home, where police found a sign saying "the only good cop is a dead cop".
When Slater left his home Thursday night, police followed him and arrested him at Gale and University.
"It's very serious. Anytime you make threats over the Internet that's like a federal crime. It's considering a serious crime when you're threatening officials and threatening police officers. I've got police officers - we've had discussions about the police officers are out there now trying to stop the violent in the city. And the, this guy sends things saying 'I'm gonna kill your guys out there trying to do that'. We take that very seriously," said Capt. Mike Scally with Peoria police.
Court documents indicate that Slater allegedly used a gun to threaten children who walked though his yard last week.
Slater faces federal threat charges and was appointed a federal public defender Friday, and is due back in court the first week in August.
