Come Election Day, November 2nd, Illinois voters will likely vote twice to decide who will take over the U.S. Senate seat formerly held by President Barack Obama.
First for the full six-year term, then to elect someone to serve starting November 24th after the special election results are certified.
The reason being that current Senator Roland Burris was not elected. He was appointed to the senate seat.
Another twist in the story, Friday a federal judge ruled that candidates for that special election can only be those that have already won their party's primaries.
That means Republican Mark Kirk, Democrat Alexi Giannoulias, and Independents who have gathered 25 thousand signatures will be on the ballot, leaving current Senator Roland Burris out of the running.
