Another group hopes to increase the amount of healthy foods provided to needy families and it's getting some help with a donation.
Midwest Food Bank is distributing food products using soy ingredients to help improve the nutrition content.
The agency is collaborating with the University of Illinois to increase the number of recipes like this chicken rice soup under its Tender Mercies Program.
Wednesday the Community Foundation presented Midwest Food Bank with a check for $5576 to help with the program.
Midwest Food Bank Executive Director Larry Herman says it's a win-win situation for everyone.
"Think of the calories that could be offset because of the fulfilling nature of the product, the protein and the fiber fill your stomach, they give you that satisfied feeling because they are true nutrition," said Herman.
Midwest Food Bank provides food to over 180 agencies throughout Central Illinois.
