Young Girls Dance To Single Ladies

By Jen Christensen

There is a big controversy brewing over whether some young girls wearing lingerie and dancing to "Single Ladies" crossed the line. Some parents say it was too provocative. Others say the dance has been blown out of proportion. This week on NewsAnchorMom.com, we want to know your opinion. Click on related content for several links to the video and let us know what you think.

i have 3 girls of my own and i think theses are the kind of acts that take the innocence away from being little girls all i can say is my children will not perticapate in a activity like this.

Being the mother of a very beautiful daughter, I would NEVER have allowed someone to teach her moves that tantalize a lot of wrong people or wear clothing that is totally inappropriate like this.

If you want to let your children dress like that, that is your business!!!! They are only 7!!! There is no reason for a child of that age to wear high boots skimpy shorts and super short shirts!!! I have an opionion on what I think just like you.......quit bashing me cus I feel how I feel!

Monday, May 17 at 3:36 PM mom wrote ...

I just can not believe that some people say this is ok, these kids were on stage in lingerie!!! That alone is repulsive, they are children. I'm sure these kids worked hard, but I say shame on the parents that allowed their kids to go on stage wearing that! My daughter does dance, and early before competition or recitals, parents see the costumes the children will wear, because they measure the kids and the parents have to pay for the costumes - so I believe these parents knew in advance what these outfits would look like, and again order the outfits, paid for them and allowed them to wear them on stage - really this is crazy!

Monday, May 17 at 3:29 PM mom wrote ...

Not good, it's the clothes and song lyrics that make this NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!

Monday, May 17 at 3:26 PM Mom of 2 wrote ...

In no way is this appropriate! The lyrics of the song are TOTALLY not appropriate. I'm all for kids being in dance competitions and recitals, but this disturbing. These parents just taught their childern that dressing in lingerie and dancing on stage is ok..........NO it's not.

SHAME ON THE MOMS AND DADDYS WHO ARE SUPPOSED TO TEACH THESE YOUNG LADIES TO BE RESPECTFULL OF THIER OWN SELFS.AND SHAME ON WEEK FOR PUTTING A PICTURE OF LITTLE HALF NAKED GIRLS ON THE FRONT PAGE OF THIS WEBSITE. I HAVE A DAUGHTER THAT LOVES TO PUSH ALL THE BOUNDRIES AND BE AS UNIQUE AND ODD AS I WILL LET HER AND NEVER WOULD SHE EVEN TRY TO PULL SOMETHING LIKE THIS. THESE GIRLS SHOULD KNOW THAT THIS IS NOT APPROPRIAT EVEN IF THIER STUP[ID PARENTS DO NOT.

THIS should be a wake-up call to all parents...do they think it is ok for 7 yr olds to grind and skip around in next to nothing...just for a dance comp.?! The parents and the teacher should realize that all the perverts have download that dance video by now and are getting off on it...lets face the truth shall we, we need to make a stand and stop putting our young girls and boys in situations that are not age appropriate for them. The song was meant for adults NOT CHILDREN!!!!

Monday, May 17 at 1:14 PM Elani wrote ...

There can be little doubt they worked hard. But what kind of message are we sending when we say this is O.K.? Ask yourself why do people buy lingerie? I don't think any answer would be "to dance”. I think answers might be “to look sexy” or “to feel sexy”. Young teenagers are all ready being subjected to TV, magazines, and the internet telling them that in order to be pretty you have to look this way and wear this product. If you don’t think that this will have an effect on their morals and values (which leads to decision based on those morals and values), then I think you are not seeing things clearly. Give them credit for doing a great dance routine, but let them wear something appropriate. Where there are no morals, nations crumble.

They wear if for a performance, not everyday. They will more than likely not end up a in a teen pregnancy situation, because they have goals!! Theses girls will probably end up at Juilliard!!

I am surprised at the comments, and how this is all being blown out of proportion. Do you realize that pedophiles just get off by going to Walmart or how about your public pool. Everyone there is wearing less than what these little girls are. It is a dance class that deals with modern dance. This is what our society deemed proper, appropriate, and acceptable at any level and age. Who are you to judge? Who left you all to be God? Last I knew the Bible said he who is without sin cast the first stone. Does anyone on this blog meet that? Leave them all alone. You just took away the little girls sense of accomplishment and excitement.

Just because your kid is dressed appropriately doesnt mean a sick disgusting sex offender will not fantasize about them or pray upon them.

This is exploitation, pure and simple. These mothers and people who approve of this are unbelievable. These are little girls doing moves that strippers do on poles. It is sexual, suggestive dancing. Their rear ends are coming out of their underwear and it is appalling. Society is really corrupt if they think this is appropriate at this age. Parents and mothers of these girls and their supporters, this is a shame when we exploit children in this way. It's not talent in my book. It's sickening and taking away the innocence of their little girls and making them grow up faster and not letting them be little girls that they are. Instead of all the hundreds of hours being spent on this, let them be little girls and ride their bikes, have sleep overs, be a girl scout, play video games, play at parks and outside, play sports..... UGH! Shame on the mothers and supporters of this type of dancing.

Mom of 3, yes the song was in Alvin and the Chipmunks, but the Chipettes were not dressed like prostitutes when they sang it, and their dance moves were nothing that anybody could call sexual. These girls look like they are dressed in lingerie. To each their own, I guess. I would never let my daughter dress or dance like that. If these parents want to, then that's fine but I would love to see what life is like at their house when their girls are teenagers. You reap what you sow.

there definitely something wrong with our society believing that it is ok for children to dress provocatively. This is a problem, not only in this situation, but in stores as well. The clothing offered in the girls sections is horrifying. I would never let my girl wear most of what is offered. Children's innocence should be protected.

Monday, May 17 at 6:50 AM sad but true wrote ...

this is ridiculous. why would a parent EVER allow their child out in public wearing something like this? i don't care if it's "for the good of the performance" or whatever other excuse being thrown out there. we live in a sick world. one where a parent would actually believe that this type of outfit is ok & one where the pedophile is more than happy to look at it.

Monday, May 17 at 6:46 AM Umgawah wrote ...

Wow, you don't have to be a 'Bible thumper' to be offended by these outfits. These are a little out of line. Whose idea was this for these children to wear these? Not that I nor anyone else here has a right to stone anybody, but let's exercise a little commonsense.

We sexualize our young children and then wonder why they go missing at the hands of sexual predators. I pulled my daughter from dance class because the emphasis was too much on physical appearance. 5 year old girls don't need to be wearing skimpy outfits and full makeup. Sadly, there are sick and twisted individuals who prey on young children for sexual gratification. The type of activity in this news article only serves to reinforce a mindset that contributes to a sexually deviant attitude towards children.

The difficulty level of the dance they did required them to wear something like this. Its no more than a 2 piece that girls wear at the beach or the pool, where they really do have a chance to get kidnapped. Try watching the whole video available on youtube before you make comments. Its not like these girls are walking down the street wearing these clothes. Its a competition, they have it on for 5 mins or less and then I am sure they are promptly covered up. As for the song, it has a very hypnotic beat and most kids really love this song, it was on Alvin and the Chipmunks! Kids identify to this music. Not the words that everyone is flipping out over, but the beat. Get over it and let the girls have their day. They worked hard and deserve it!

Monday, May 17 at 12:44 AM amanda wrote ...

I wholly agree with Rod. No one is saying that they shouldn't dance- it's a great activity and it encourages kids to hone their talents. However, given the age of these girls, the outfits and nature of the dance were totally inappropriate. If they were 10 or so years older- then fine.

Sunday, May 16 at 11:50 PM Dave H wrote ...

They should be wearing burkas? Remeber the song from the 1930's, Everything Goes? It's all based on whatever the current arbitrary standards are decided by the bible thumpers. Give it a rest. They're kids having fun with their parody. I feel bad for anyone that has a problem with that. I'd sure be ashamed if I had any inappropriate thoughts about little children.

Sunday, May 16 at 11:37 PM Rod wrote ...

I work as a guard at a prison where we have lots of child molestors. Many of them knew their victim before hand. Although these kids are talented, there is no reason to help the perverts out by dressing them like this and letting them dance to such music. Kids are supposed to be kids. Quit trying to make adults out of them.

My daughters were in dance recitals for many years and never wore costumes that were too old for their ages or danced to songs that were not age appropriate. Luckily, they went to a dance school where the owner has some common sense about these things. It's not cute to dance or wear costumes that are meant for older girls. People are not perverted to think it is not right to do so. This is part of the problem, people like tom think there is nothing wrong with age inappropriate material and others are wrong to think so. I'd like to know what dance school these girls attend.

these are not your typical amateurish dance classes....these are kids that have put hundreds of hours into professional dance. there is a huge difference between these kids and 'regular dance class kids'. These kids are amazingly talented...the outfits were too much but nonetheless, amazing.

Dancers often were form-fitting costumes. The problem with this is the costumes are meant to look like sexy underwear AND the content of the song is much to old for these young children. Parents, get involved! when you take your kids to dance class, stay and watch what they are doing. Question the type of costuming you see, the music choices. These girls are talented...but they shouldn't be taught this kind of stuff at such a young age!
