Peoria's census day is fast approaching and local leaders are stressing its financial significance.

The city of Peoria's "Complete Count Committee" says the forms are coming if you have not received them already.

"They should be receiving their census forms very soon. if they have not received them in the mail already then they will be receiving them in the next couple of weeks," said Renee Charles, a Peoria Census Committee member. "There may be a census worker who will come to your house and actually deliver those forms."

Mayor Jim Ardis says filling out the forms and returning them promptly will ensure Peoria and all local communities receive the federal funding they need.

"It really means, potentially millions of dollars to the city of Peoria. We get a certain amount of money for each citizen that we have here, so it is very important we get a good accurate count," said Mayor Ardis. "People don't need to be concerned about their privacy, we just need to know how many people live in the city."

Charles says April 1 is census day and the goal is to have all census forms completed and returned by that day.

Peoria will also be placing signs around town to remind everyone to participate in the census.
