Some businesses are now choosing to pay their employees...with debit cards.

Carlos O'Kelly's is just one local franchise that's made the switch to a plastic paycheck. Some employees seem to like it.

Carlos O'Kelly's server Crystal Phillips says, "It's a good card, easy to use. I would recommend it. I like the paper checks better but this is easy to use and it's easy to keep track of."

Carlos O'Kelly's manager says it's a bonus for him because he no longer has to hand out checks to employees... plus it saves costs.

Carlos O'Kelly's manager Ricky Wetmore says, "It's just the green aspect, there's no paper, there's no ink involved in it so."

One perk of the new system is workers don't have to come all the way into work to pick up their paychecks...but, there are minor setbacks as well.

Carlos O'Kelly employees say they no longer receive their statement on paper...instead they go to skylight.net and check their statements online.

Carlos O'Kelly's server Jake Lockwood says, "If you don't have ready internet access you know it can be kind of difficult."

Wetmore also says it is important for employees to keep track of their balance.

Carlos O'Kelly's manager Ricky Wetmore says, "I tell everyone to keep it simple because if you start using it as a debit and you overdraw you're going to get charged so it's just like any other card there's going to be fees."

However, employees can cash their cards at any bank that accepts visa at no extra charge.

It may be new to many now but in the coming years it could become the 21st century way to pay employees.
