Area business leaders are calling on state lawmakers for help. Members of regional Chambers of Commerce are planning a trip to the state capital to help improve their business communities.
They also want individual business owners who wish to voice their personal concerns to join them on the trip. Issues at the top of the agenda include new jobs and workers' compensation.
Organizers of the trip say it's important for the communities to put aside competition to be able to tackle common problems together. "We just felt like there was more strength in numbers, and we believe if we do this well this year with 75 or 100 people we could do a lot more," said Roberta Parks, President of the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce, "At some point the numbers do count, so our goal is to go down there, have a good program, get a chance to talk to some of the key people, let them know what our position is and then refine this."
