Crisis Nursery to Receive Donations from Tax Form

A statewide organization that helps keep young children with troubled parents is calling on the community to help keep its' doors open.

Crisis Nursery Coalition of Illinois has been added to the 2009 income tax form for voluntary donations.

The money will be equally divided between all of the centers in the state.

Peoria's Crittenton Centers usually receive funds from the state government, but the budget crunch has put them under financial strain.

The center says in tough economic times, reaching out to the community might be the most effective way to raise money. "Just given the fact of the economic climate and the state, you never know with our contracts if they're going to be funding us, they've been late on various contracts we have with them," coordinator Dan Oliver told reporters, "So as much money as we can get from outside individuals to other areas, it will help us."

If you want to donate to Crisis Nursery, you will need to check off item J on Schedule G, or choose "Crisis Nursery Fund" if filing electronically.

The nurseries will have to raise at least $100,000 to remain on the forms next year.

You might be right, Doctor Obvious...but once a child is born, they do not deserve to be unsafe.

Heaven forbid people ever exercised a little personal responsibility and quit having children they can't afford to support...

How ridiculous that "going broke" would assume that these organizations aren't doing the best they can to raise funds. Operating crisis nurseries is costly (but SO important), and it takes diversified funding sources to keep them in operation. I'm sorry that you barely have enough for yourself anymore. Perhaps one day soon a social service organization will help YOU out, and you will no longer have such a negative attitude.

Maybe if taxpayers wouldn't have to pay for that stupid Block/Museum they mite be more willing to donate to Crisis Nursery. Oh but wait the "Great Yellow God" or "Peoria County Board Members" that wants the museum can donate to the Crisis Nursery out of their own deep pockets!!!

the day will soon come when all these organizations will have to stop putting their hands out, and instead exercising their little empty brains and raise money on their own. the state and the people are going broke. donations are way down for everyone, and it probably isnt going to get any better especially with taxes going up again. sorry, but my donation days are over. i barely have just enough for me any more.
