A local business received some state recognition today for its practice of hiring veterans.

State representative Jehan Gordon presented US Cellular with a resolution for being named among the list of top 100 military friendly companies by GI Jobs Magazine.

She says it's wonderful that companies like US cellular see the background that veterans offer to employers.

"It's my hope that men and women throughout the community will see that US cellular and companies like this respect the values and the work ethic that they bring to the table," said Gordon.

About a half dozen veterans work at the Peoria US Cellular stores.

Sales manager marty hedges started working as a service technician nearly four years ago and was promoted to sales manager within two years.

There is an incredibly extensive interview and background check process. Even veterans have to meet the tight hiring standards.

i'm sure the interview process is fair for all. I doubt the scale is tipped for military folks. I would be proud to work for a company that truly did seek to find the best possible candidates.

Thats great nothing against vets, but what ever happened to being fair. You should not get a job solely because you were in the military
