Get Ready for the Snow

Tools

By WEEK Producer

This snow event is just beginning. One system from the north is merging with another system to our south will result in a snow situation lasting several hours. Here's the anticipated accumulation breakdown.

Generally 5 to 7 inches across much of central Illinois including Peoria and Bloomington. There could be heavier pockets north of Peoria along the I-80 corridor. Chicago is not the place to go as 8 to 12 inches may hit the windy city. The real problem is Tuesday afternoon when 15 to 20 mile per hour winds with gusts near 35 start blowing and drifting the snow causing hazardous travel conditions through Wednesday morning.

Going into February 8th our seasonal snowfall total is nearly 27 inches and that's above our seasonal average of 26 inches and we still have a lot of winter to go.

This feels more like a normal IL winter. While I can't say I love the snow, it's far better than the ice storms of the past two winters.

I know I thing for sure. There is a 90% chance that the weather forecast will not be close to the actual amount of snow . They say 6-8 so I bet around 3-4 Inches
