IDOT Sets Weight Limit for Peoria Bridge

Tools

By Jennifer French

A routine inspection, leads the Illinois Department of Transportation to put a weight limit on a local bridge.

The Cedar Street Bridge between Peoria and East Peoria now has a 15-ton weight limit.

Starting today, vehicles like large trucks and semis are advised to take another route.

Plans are being made to repair the bridge, but no schedule has been finalized.

Those who violate the weight limit may be subject to ticket and fine from law enforcement.

IDOT officials say the bridge is safe for all other traffic.

Problems were not specified, but IDOT officals say repairs will be needed.

Alternate routes advised for large trucks include the Bob Michel Bridge and the Murray Baker Bridge.
