The Heart of Illinois United Way celebrated their fundraising efforts for 2009.
The group raised $8,611,068 throughout the year; which will be donated to 47 local programs that help local residents each year.
Michael Stephan, the President of the organization says, "you know, unemployment has gone from 5% to 10 1/2%. Again with the economy, a lot of people are struggling through this economy. But it's amazing how the people in central Illinois stepped up to -again- support our campaign, support our community & help the most vunerable."
The Heart of Illinois United Way received a boost of support as 79 organization increased their contributions by 10%. The campaign also welecomed 65 new employee campaigns and corporate gifts.
