Candidate for Lieutenant Governor Comments on Illinois Budget

One of the candidates running for Quinn's former job as Lieutenant Governor says eliminating that office may be a way to save the state money.

Republican Matt Murphy, a current State Senator from Palatine, says if elected, he'd do an audit of the Lieutenant Governor's office and potentially support a constitutional amendment to do away with the post.

But that couldn't happen until at least 2015. In the meantime, Murphy says the best way to get Illinois out of its budget mess is to reign in spending and not raise taxes.

Murphy, who just added the Peoria Journal Star to his list of endorsements, was in East Peoria Thursday for a forum on health care.

It's time some one stopped all the state spending and stopped making the tax payers cover their over spending in Springfield/Chicago. I think a change in the state pension plan would be agreat help&review all the jobs there all the job's I am sure cut backs can be maded how many people do you need to do some of these job's. I see IDOT workers just riding around doing nothing leaving dead animals on the road. It's time they have work or be laid off
