A Republican win in Massachusetts could have far reaching effects.

Scott Brown defeated Democrat Martha Coakley Tuesday to claim the U.S. Senate seat formerly held by Ted Kennedy. It marks the first time a Republican has held the seat since 1952.

It also means Senate Democrats lost their filibuster-proof 60-vote majority.

Illinois State Senator Dave Koehler (D-Peoria) says it's a setback to the President's health care agenda and he recommends democrats proceed cautiously on the issue.

"I think that there will be a regrouping in Congress, in both the House, the Senate and with the President to see how they can pass something," said Koehler. "I think it's very important that they pass something this year."

Illinois GOP National Committeewoman Demetra DeMonte agrees with Koehler that democrats should slow down on health care.

"We're going to see if the Democrats will stop it. But what happened last night is a wake up call of huge dimensions. They would be very unwise not to hear it."

DeMonte says the Brown win in Massachusetts bodes well for the Illinois Republican party in it's attempt to take the open senate seat in Illinois this November.

I'm going to rewrite your post with correct grammar: I couldn't glean anything useful from your post other than the fact that you are telling people to stop. Where are your ideas there big boy? You are like a little dog that barks when the big dog barks. Ruff Ruff! I am laughing out loud. See, that wasn't too difficult, was it?

To Bob: You are a typical liberal, you can't take the negativity. We shouldn't be offering up solutions, that is what we elect our representatives and president for.

If you read through these comments, you will notice that many of them are very partisan, and very few (there are exceptions) are just rants that offer no help and no solutions. It would be nice to read something intelligent every once in a while. Thanks to those of you who are posting something useful. For the rest of you, stop wasting our time.

Health care isn't the only issue here. It is the lack of transparency and bribes the democrats made that has riled the American public. It is the spending of our dollars and the 'I don't care attitude of dems" Wake up Il you need to stand up for our freedom. A former Illinois voter!

Anonymous - although you are correct that the majority of our current fallout is due to the "everyone deserves a house" fair lending plan under the Clinton administration, you must note that most people are too lazy to research and find facts when they can just recite the dribble of politicians. Bush is definitely a contributer, but it's not hard to find the real history behind the bad loan programs.

Yes, the healthcare "Obama's" health care is being paid for by "we the people of the United State"...as are the billions of $ in debt we are now in. It will never be paid off now, until the socialists and communists buy our country, of course, and 'save us'. Let's keep telling China we don't care one bit about human rights, and they can buy us too! NOT~!~

Cindy, Carter's administration introduced the Community Reinvestment Act, which allowed risky lending. Clinton's administration in 1995 pushed banks to give out more risky loans towards housing. It's hard to point fingers at Bush for our current problems once you look up the facts. 8 years of destruction by the republicans is just an ignorant statement. Carter and Clinton helped paved the way to destruction.

What happened to killing NAFTA and stopping the exporting of our industries and jobs overseas? What happened to curtailing H1 Visas? Maybe if this had been done and the employment was better last night would have been different in Mass.

You are in denial. Obama dumped all of our money into GM (gov.t motors) and they are still losing money. Unemployment is higher under Obama and Bush. The man had 800 billion dollars of stimulus money and screwed up with how it would be spent and it resulted in worse unemployment. You can try to blame Bush all you want but would your boss allow you to blame your predecessor for 12 months. Doubt it. Obama should stand accountable for his poor judgement and a year of compete failure.

Americans are so fickle......they say nothing 4 for 8 years when Bush takes America by the hand down the path of destruction, but then 3/4's of America votes the total opposite and elects Obama to fix the 8 years' destruction and expect Obama to fix it in 1 year.....now THAT is a laugh !! Trying to fix 8 years of Republican destruction of America in 1 year ???!!!
