The economic news is not good at the Peoria Journal Star.
The newspaper's publisher says 11 positions are being eliminated.
The layoffs are happening in the news, advertising, circulation, and production departments.
Publisher Ken Mauser says the sputtering economy continues to have a big impact on the newspaper industry, and that necessitated the latest round of layoffs.

newspapers are also a waste of resources. think about all the trees that get cut down to make the paper for newspapers, think about all the delivery drivers in their cars using gas, etc., etc.. again, all the FREE 24/7 media is killing the newspapers, along with their ridiculous advertising rates they charge nowadays to cover their never-ending losses. they are in a downward spiral that is picking up momentum, and its only a matter of time till they hit bottom.

the economy has little to do with it. sure, when money is tight, expenses like a newspaper are the first to go, especially with all the FREE media out there now. unfortunatley for the PJS, once the old subscribers are out of that habit, it will be even tougher getting those subscribers back. but a large part of the PJS's problem is all the FREE media - tv, radio, internet, etc. why pay for something you can get for free? lets face it, like it or not, all newspapers will soon be history.
