For some people Winter Wonderland, in East Peoria's Fon Du Lac Park, is the high point of the Festival of Lights.

A year ago 18,000 people visited Winter Wonderland. At $10 per car that's a lot of money. But this year, if you come Monday through Thursday it will only cost $5.

FOLEPIi chairman Dan Cunningham says the discount was the idea of the East Peoria city council.

"It was something that they did on their own," said Cunningham. "The city council knew that this is the 25th year and wanted to give something back to the community. Even though The Festival of Lights is struggling financially this is their way of saying this is still for the community and let's give something back."

Winter Wonderland is open 7 days a week through December 31. There are also some free lighted displays located at East Peoria's riverfront park.

And this year's Festival of Lights Parade, originally held November 28, will be televised on WEEK TV on Saturday, December 5, at 6:30 pm.

It might stay around if they would save some money by turning of the lights DURING THE DAY!!!

The festival of lights got us through some tough holiday times in the 80's. I'd hate to see it disappear. It's part of the season now.

This show is an awesome demonstration of the season and my kids have enjoyed going for years now. While other cities are cutting back on their holiday splendor, I am really pleased to see Central Illinois is strong! Even in tough times, we can pull it together and be in the spirit of celebrating.
