Peoria County authorities are investigating a fire that severely damaged a home in Lake Camelot Sunday night.

Logan-Trivoli Fire Chief David Tuttle says the home owner, Kenneth Kocher, was defrosting a freezer in the garage at 4103 South Dunbar Point.

Tuttle says Kocker left the garage. When he came back he discovered the fire.

Firefighters arrived on the scene at 9:20 pm and found flames shooting twenty to thirty feet into the air.

Tuttle says they called in other firefighters from the Air National Guard, Limestone Township and Timber-Hollis to help.

The fire was knocked down in about 30 minutes.

Tuttle says most of the damage was contained to the garage and attic area.

Damage is estimated at $90,000.00, which includes damage to the vehicles lost in the garage.

I am in such shock from some of the comments made. The Kochers are the kindest neighbors that would help out anyone in need. Their loss is a tragedy and my heart goes out to them. If people can't be kind and respectful of someone's loss then they should keep their rude comments to themselves!!

I am disappointed in the fact that there are such rude and hateful people in the world. It is in times like these, especially around Christmas, that we should all show compassion toward one another and be decent human beings. The Kochers lost a lot in this tragic incident, and the fact that others in the community think it is a joke is truly heartbreaking.

My heart is breaking for this couple and I hope that they are blessed this holiday season despite the fire. Thankfully they were not hurt. I am also thankful to know that our fire dept is so reliable. Sounds like they did a great job. Thoughts and prayers with the Kocher family.

To the Kocher family I am so sorry for all you have been through this past month. How devastating for your parents. I am completely in shock by the rude comments. Your family will be in my prayers & I pray the rude commenters don't have a crisis in their life that changes their life in a second.

First of all, it is no one's buisness but the family as to what has happened. Second of all, people need to stop being so cruel and IGNORANT with their comments. Who cares what started it, all the matters is that both homeowners are okay and not harmed. Whatever happened to treating others as you would want to be treated. If it was your house and this happened, i dont think you'd want the rude comments.

First let the Fire Dept. determine the cause, THAT's there job. Accidents and oddities can happen, but darned if it needed to be this close to Christmas. Good job to the Fire Dept. most fires can burn longer. But just kind words also help, and so glad no one was hurt, other than the loss of items that never can be replaced.

Unreal the heartlesness of people. Wonderful, elderly people that built this home as their dream home. Thye have lost many of their cherished lifelong belongings and some of you are worried about how he defrosted his freezer. Thoughts and prayers are with the Kochers

I think people need to have a little more compassion for others...does it really matter how it started? The fact is they have lost a lot of personal items that they will never be able to replace. It's almost Christmas time and some of you ungrateful people need to have a little compassion for others! Thank God they did not get hurt! I know these people and I feel horrible that they had to go through something so tragic.
