Two Dogs Saved In East Peoria Home Fire

A rough start to the holiday season for one East Peoria family. East Peoria fire investigators have been called in to determine the cause of a smoky house fire late Tuesday afternoon.

The blaze, in the 500 block of Muller Road in East Peoria, was spotted by a neighbor when smoke and flames were seen coming from the roof of the two story structure. The home's occupants, Joshua Ehrat, his wife and two children, were not at home when the fire was spotted.

Neighbors were able to rescue the Ehrat's two dogs, before firefighters got on the scene. Muller Road was blocked, as fire crew's poured water into the home and cut into the roof of the home.

East Peoria fire officials on the scene said it was too early to determine a cause for the blaze, but it appeared the fire got its start in the kitchen area and spread into the ceiling and roof.

Eh windows were blackened but the outside wasn't too bad. They cut a hole in the roof to let the buildup out. I'm not entirely sure about the inside structure though.

The firefighters let the dogs out, they were trapped in the basement I saw them ...I called 911! It was hard watching them through the window pacing while the smoke filled the room. I wanted to break the window but it would've fed the fire with air. I knew that the fire dept. was on its way. Glad they are ok and nobody was hurt.
