A Missouri woman is dead following a light plane crash near Kewanee Monday night.

The Federal Aviation Administration has been called in to examine the scene: a cornfield south of the Kewanee Municipal Airport.

The 1976 single-engine Cessna 182 had just taken off from the airport when it crashed, according to State Police.

83-year-old Peggy Middleton of Downing ,Missouri was pronounced dead after being taken to Kewanee Hospital.

The plane's pilot, 82-year-old Harold Middleton, had minor injuries, as did a juvenile passenger..
