Police Bust Peoria Drinking Party

Illinois State Police and Bradley Police raided a home near Bradley University this weekend handing out 88 notices to appear to underage drinkers as well as criminal citations to four others.

Twenty one-year-old William Betke is the resident of 704 Duryea, where the party was held, was also arrested on felony drug charges. Three others, 19 year old William H. Ferry of Springfield , 21 year old Mark Bulicek of Crystal Lake and 20-year old Vladymyr Ivanshyn were all charged with obstructing justice and resisting arrest.

State Police said the raid came after undercover officers saw the gathering.

"When we do these operations we will have some plain-clothes officers sometimes walk through the neighborhood. And, in this case, it was officers walking through the neighborhood that ran into this party with underage drinkers actually coming outside and that's how we found it this time," Illinois State Police Captain Dean Kennedy says.

Betke and Ivanyshn are not Bradley students. The 88 students who were citied for underage drinking were given notices to appear in court.

I go to Bradley and just because students drink doesnt mean we r the worst people or we dont know how to handle our selves because we aren't old enough. I sure the majority of the people that got tickets are more mature than the people writing on this. And just because WE GO OUT TO HAVE FUN, doesnt mean we our irresponsible. Why dont they go see how many kids they can bust at ISU or U of I??? Also most of the kids at the party consumed under 3 drinks so it wasnt a problem or out of control

BJ said" At 18, you can be drafted or enlist" Stay in school and try a littler history. The draft has been gone since the 70's but we all know teachers don't teach history any more and I doubt you would retain what was being taught. You joun the military and I would be all for allowing military personnel have the right to drink at 19 after one year in the service. The rest aren't mature enough.

No the drinking age should not be 18 , because you can enlist in the military ...The military TRAINS you to USE YOUR HEAD BEFORE USING A WEAPON..and the training is MORE THAN A FEW WEEKS ! Just 3 short weeks ago a young girl 17 years of age DIED from alcohol poising , #2 Two friends were walking down Main st after having a few beers ,1 was pushed into traffic and killed,#3 A young soccer star was killed in a house fire after a PRANK by some drunk friends . Now do you KIDS GET IT !

At 18, you can be drafted or enlist, briefly trained, given a gun and ordered to kill someone...but you can not buy a 6 pack sit in your home and drink it. Something needs to change.

Drinking age should be 18. Get that part right and then the related offenses can be treated more severely (drunk driving). Adults should be able to consume what they want. Punish for crimes, not what leads to them (drunk driving being the exception).

I think 1st you have to see how many students were freshman that were at the party..compare that to the total number of freshmen enrolled at BU. Then you might get a better picture on how the non-drinking orientation is working. You'd be surprised it is working.

PJS says 70 were Bradley students. Their orientation sysyem about the "evils of drinking" does not seem to be working. How STUPID do you have to be not to think you're gonna get busted with that many at a party? Not to mention "growing your own." In a Bradley-owned house yet. Sounds like they will all get a big slap on the hand from Bradley for their offense if you read the PJS article. I've done some stupid stuff in my life but never THAT stupid.
