At first glance, this looks like a scene from Sesame Street.
However, this musician isn't just singing to kids. She's making music for their parents as well.
"It's for children at any age . . . a child at heart, because I think that most children's music is annoying," said Julie Westendorf-Walker, musican. "So I was trying to create a non-annoying children's album, so that parents and children can all enjoy driving to Chicago together."
Julie said she infuses different melodies with jazz and reggae to make children's songs more enjoyable for everyone.
Julie was the owner and director of the Music Together of Peoria Program. Now selling her business, she devotes her time to making music for children and their families.
Julie performed songs Saturday at Cyd's in Junction City. Her album "A Sunny Day" debuted in mid September.
Once a music teacher, she has attracted some of her students to her performance including Norah Springborn.
"Norah was one of her first students and we followed her, and now we love singing the songs w/ her on her CD," said Val Springborn, Nora's mother.
Though for everyone, the songs are still educational.
"Children are very smart, even at a young age," said Julie. "They're like little sponges. Music is really important in the development of children. It helps with reading and math and I don't think we need to dumb down the music. It needs to be educational for them."
Julie hopes those long car rides turn from "Are We there Yet" to kids counting in Spanish.

My daughter (age 6) and I LOVE this album!! The lyrics are wonderful and the music gets you movin' and a groovin'. I find myself singing and thinking the songs throughout the day. My daughter loved it so much that she listened to the album over and over and had them all memorized within two days. I highly recommend this CD!
