Peoria Police are investigating the city's 13th homicide of the year.
Police say the fatal shooting happened just before 7 AM Saturday.

The Peoria County Coroner says 23 year-old Brandon Grant died from a single gunshot to the abdomen. His autopsy was conducted Saturday afternoon.

Grant was found lying in the back seat of a vehicle at 1819 North Lehman Road at about 6:45. He was taken to OSF St. Francis Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 7:30.

What police don't know is whether he was shot in the car or transported there after being shot at another location.

Police say they have identified a suspect in connection with the shooting but have not yet located him.

If you have any information, you're urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 673-9000.

Brandon, was such a nice and quiet person. I can't think of any reason anybody would want to hurt him. I went to school with him from Sterling to Peoria High and he barely talked. My prayers go out to his family and friends during this hard time and especially his children.

1) Maybe it's time that WEEK follow PJS's policy of not allowing comments on tragic stories like this. 2) My bet is that the same people that complain about the way that African-Americans live are the same ones that would not volunteer at a program that keeps young black youth on the positive path. Mentoring a young person one day a week for even 1 hour will pay off in the long run.

The fact is a life has ended in tragic and violent way that no one would wish for one they love. The people leaving racist comments could just go about their business and ignore this story. It takes more energy to leave a racist, negative comment than to just keep clicking your mouse to the next web site. I feel sadness for those of you with hatred in your heart. You are your own worst enemy. Stop spreading hatred. Be part of the solution and not the problem. There is no truth in ingnorance!

I'm so sorry for the sensless loss to this family! My thoughts and prayers go out to all who knew and loved this young man. It's so sad how many awful racist comments were written in this forum. I love living in Peoria, I'm Caucasian (not that it should matter), and my child is getting an excellent education right here in District 150. I love the diversity of this city. I also think the police are doing there best. Demise Jackson is not racist! She's a fine reporter. God Bless the family!

1st, my prayers to the family of 'Shaun'. My beef is those posters that DIDN'T know him personally, automatically stereotyped who he was and how he died. Thanks to those close family members who posted, and knew Shaun as someone who was leading a straight life. Not every murder is drug related or gang related. Also, to "hmmm", Denise Jackson does not say racist things on the air. She delivers news, not commentary..and if she did, she wouldn't be there anymore.

Its ashame after all this Americans still think on race. I see much of nothing has changed. regardless of his color this young has be taken away from his family plus there is now 3 little children without a father. My prayers are with the family and the city. Just because someone is killed does not mean drugs. I lost my nephew this year he was the first to go and it was not drugs everyone doesnt do them. I feel when you catch who is doing the killings send them to Iraq.

Show a little respect for the man and his family. I knew him personally and he wasnt involved in gangs or drugs. He was a hard working man that was employed by Caterpillar and he loved his children and family very much. We'll always miss you and love you Brandon..RIP

think about the percentages and what needs to change. the fact is there are too many poverty stricken youths and you put a gun in their hand and they will kill, rob, whatever for $5. Pekin, Bloomington/Normal, other cities don't have this problem. Blacks - My advice is quit having 10 kids you cannot support and raise without getting everything like housing, food stamps, etc for FREE.
