Peoria County Balances Budget Through Wage and Hiring Freezes

Meanwhile, the Sheriff's office will be losing 14 full time positions next year.

The Peoria County Board tonight balanced the 2010 budget of $113 million--$9 million fewer dollars than this year.

That means 62 fewer Peoria County employees on the books than 2009.

In addition, there's a wage freeze for non-union employees, three furlough days for management and capital spending was cut by a million and a half dollars.

The decision to cut staff and spending comes after the county saw revenue from taxes drop 10 percent.
