More businesses are jumping on the charter school band wagon.
Thursday night the Peoria Charter School Initiative held another community forum for residents to learn about charter schools.

Dozens of residents gathered to hear a panel of 150 parents, community leaders and business officials all advocating for a Peoria charter school.

Kevin D'sa and his wife say although their son is just four months old, they're hoping to plan early for his future.

"We live in Peoria and when we think about our options, pretty much it's private school, because we're not just confident in District 150 test scores. So we decided when we heard about the charter as an option, we wanted to hear more about what those opportunities will be", said the father.

Among the panelists was Methodist Medical Center, CEO, Michael Bryant, and West Central Illinois Building and Construction Trades Council, Executive Director, Dan Silverthorn. Both say they believe a math, science and technology charter school is important for the city's future workforce.

"For years we've been supportive of any initiative the school district could do to improve the reading and math skills of their graduating students, because we have difficulty getting them into our programs at building trades because they can't pass our entry level tests because of math and reading", said Silverthorn.

PCSI has already submitted the final applications for the charter, and expects the school board will vote on the matter next month. Backers hope to have a Charter School open by August of 2010.
