H1N1 Vaccine Makes it to ISU

Illinois State University Students finally got the chance to get the H1N1 vaccine Sunday.

But the biggest challenge for student services was getting students to Redbird Arena on a rainy Sunday.

By mid-afternoon, healthcare workers and volunteers had given about 600 shots.

Despite a morning rush, health services director, Glenn Weiss (wize), says they had to find creative ways to try to get students out of bed and to the clinic.

ISU Student Health Services Director Glen Weiss says, "We called the head of the residence halls and told that person to notify all the hall coordinators to walk up and down and tell people, 'Hey, there's not line, go over now...and then were able to get what we call an email blast sent out, so every single student got an email."

The I-S-U health canter direcor says they had about 23 hundred doses on hand for the Sunday clinic.

Weiss (Wize) says they ordered 15-thousand doses total- enough to vaccinate three-quarters of their students and staff- but they've only gotten a partial shipment.

The Director says more clinics will be scheduled on campus as they get the vaccine from the McLean County health Department.
