Peoria County H1N1 Clinic

After weeks of waiting hundreds of Peoria and Marshall county residents received the H1N1 shot Monday.

10,000 doses of the H1N1 vaccine arrived in Peoria County last Thursday.

One Peoria City-County Health Department official says they've been notified that more shipments of the vaccine will arrive each week.

As a result they are scheduling more clinics throughout the month and into December.

Monday, hundreds of families waited in line for hours to receive the first doses.

"We were a little nervous because it hit Tazewell County before Peoria County but we were really excited to hear it was scheduled and the vaccines were here. It seemed very organized and once the clinic opened at four, the groups they took in, it went very well," said Gennifer Jeffries, a mother who received the vaccination, along with her two children.

Not everyone was pleased with Monday's clinic.
We received multiple calls from viewers saying about 20 families were turned away after 7- when the clinic closed- after they had waited in line for hours.

The viewers said health department officials told them they had enough of the vaccine, but the clinic was over.

Why can't we get these shots at our doctors offices. Is this just a ploy to make the County Health Dept. seem needed?

Gee, when I'm going soemplace with my children, I have a diaper bag with supplies, and when its cold outside, my children have mittens on! Come on people, you know you have to stand in line, be prepared and if you're not, don't blame it on someone else! Its called parenting! I waited in line like everyone else and had no problems although it wasn't the most fun I've ever had, at least my children got the vaccine.

We came early, got in line at 2:30, brought chairs, sandwiches, snacks, entertainment, ect. Once they opened the clinic, things seemed to run very smoothly. We were out by 4:15.

I lined up at 4:00 PM was in the door by 6:00 PM and home by 6:45 PM. It was all very orderly, we were assigned numbers. I knew it would be chilly so I wore a warm jacket, brought a radio and even had a snack. Don't falsely criticize because you didn't think ahead! The folks at the Health Department were very nice and professional! Good job, Health Department.

I got there at 3:00 and was out of there by 4:45. Once they started at 4:00 the line went pretty quick.

I got there to get my two children done at 3:40 and we didn't leave until 6:30! Other counties are having multiple clinics a day with waiting times of 15-20 minutes. Peoria County is very unorganized and it shows! Maybe they should ask the other counties how to do it!

I too waited in line for two hours, but I was forced to leave the line because my 8 month old spit up on himself and my 2 year olds hands felt like ice cubes, so instead of waiting any longer we left in the hopes of trying again later in the week. We got there at 4:15 and by 6:15 we were still about 45 minutes away from the door.
