First Peoria Area H1N1 Victim Remembered

Family and friends are remembering the peoria area's first victim of the H1N1 virus as a caring, loving woman.

46 year old Mary Higgins died november second after being hspitalized for two weeks.

Her sons, Jeremy and Lucas told News 25 that their mother had several medical conditions: diabetes and congestive heart failure.

"I thought my mom could fight it off. Because she'd been through so much and she's just so strong. So, I wasn't really sp concerned, then the last few days before Halloween, I think she started going downhill and I go really worried," said Lucas Higgins.

"She was really nice, kind. She always tried to help other people. And, she loved everybody," said Jeremy Higgins.

Mary Higgins' caretaker – Katie Averill – told News 25 she wishes an H1N1 flu shot had been available. Mary Higgins did receive seasonal flu and pneumonia injections when she was hospitalized.
