Six alleged drug dealers agree to a deal

All six alleged drug dealers agreed to the deal the Peoria County State's Attorney office offered them.
It was part of the Drug Market Intervention program where police identified 29 drug dealers, 23 of them were arrested and face prosecution on felony drug charges.
Last night the community confronted the remaining 6, the non-violent offenders.
They were offered the chance to avoid prosecution if they become productive members of society and stay out of trouble for the next three years.
If they break the deal, the state's attorney will prosecute the case they have against them.

The second chance program just might turnout to be something good for our community. This should have been thought of years ago, just maybe our prison system would not be over populated today.

Anybody think the nonviolent guys would be better for society after being in jail? When they have STD's and a felony conviction, they are a bigger risk to society. Alcohol has plenty of problems and we solve those with visibility and regulation.

I Think this is a great idea our jails are full of non violent offenders that are fully capable of reform. Many businesses in this country have been founded by selling drugs once the legit business starts they stop. Some times drug dealers are smart people taking a calculated risk to better their families lives.

What a ridiculous approach! And we wonder why society is so messed-up. Who are these idiots that come up with these lame brain ideas. The historical odds will tell you that second chances don't work. It has to do with mindset, it takes years to change a mindset. You can color the duck any colo you want, but ya know it is still a duck!

Productive members of society...really?!?! So, for all of us NON-CRIMINALS out there fighting for jobs they are offered a second chance...BOGUS! What a shameful message to send to society's children...it's ok to sell drugs because you can be offered a second chance if your a "NON-VIOLENT CRIMINAL"...

WAY TO GO! Lets teach kids it's OKAY to deal drugs because we will give them a 2nd chance! Wth is wrong w/ you people. They need to be punished like everyone else. Drugs are serious! Do you want one of these kids pressuring your child to buy drugs off the street? NICE...WAY TO GO!
