Peoria City/County Health Department officials report the county's first confirmed H1N1 virus death.

The 46-year old woman died Monday. She was hospitalized October 16th with multiple underlying medical conditions.

The health department has yet to receive enough of the H1N1 vaccinations to hold a clinic. It has canceled those scheduled for this week.

Heath officials urge people to take actions to prevent the illness and the spread of the disease. They ask that each person practice the 3Cs: clean you hands frequently, cover your nose and mouth when coughing or sneezing and to stay home if sick.

the majority of people that will get the H1N1 virus will make a full recovery. The very young and infirm can have a harder time of it and it could very well turn serious. There can also be the rare case a healthy person can become seriously ill with this virus. Regardless of what you believe or how you feel about this issue, it is never a bad idea to protect yourself and the ones you love by taking the simple precautions mentioned above

I can't help but wonder why every county around Peoria got the vaccine, but Peoria County, the most populated in the area can't get it.

My asthmatic son has H1N1. Because we live in Peoria County, we don't have access to the vaccine. We are simply doing our best to manage the asthma while he gets plenty of rest, fluids and ibuprofin. It gets old to have everyone blaming others for something that needs no placing of blame. You obviously like to hear yourselves rant.

OMG people there has not been any vaccines here either but we are not going to freak out over it. My son had H1N1 and he is doing fine. Unless you have any sort of medical condition you will be fine congress can only do so much and I think they are more worried about the people who are sick with heart or lung disease than a bunch of people who can not handle getting what they want. My other child has lung disease and if she would happen to get this H1N1 she could very well die.

Nice that Wall St. gets the vaccine and there is none for Peoria County. This tells you what kind of government we have. I don't know what is worse that they know what they are doing and allow this stuff to go on, or they don't know what they are doing.

"Keep In Mind", this is not your typical flu virus. This is a bigger killer and with different victims. "Any virus..." isn't accurate, sorry. This isn't only killing those with underlying conditions either!

If they have underlying medical conditions any virus could kill them - not just the H1N1. Thousands die from the flu each year - where was all of this news coverage for them??

Wednesday, Nov 4 at 6:14 PM HELLO wrote ...

to hmmm, they say they also have underlying medical conditions because those are the people who are most vulnerable to the virus in the first place and are more likely to die from the virus if they contract it.

well we wouldn't want to incite panic in the uneducated masses would we

why is it that when they say someone dies from h1n1 they also have underlying medical conditions?
