Pekin Community Leader Dies

A well known Pekin businessman and community leader has died.

Dean Bacon passed away Monday. Friends say Bacon died of a heart attack while on a riding lawnmower.

He was a former Pekin police officer. Bacon was also a longtime member of the District 108 School Board. He was also a board member of the Pekin Boys and Girls club as once ran for Mayor.

He owned Maurie's, a book and candy store in downtown Pekin, famous for its' caramel apples.

Dean Bacon was 58–years old.
