Third Guest Peoria Symphony Conductor

By Jeff Muniz

More than just Mozart and Beethoven, that's how one of the finalists to become the Peoria Symphony's next conductor describes his concerts.

Morihiko Nakahara met with music students at Morton High School Tuesday. He wants to excite these orchestra students with classical music.

"There are composers everywhere who are writing wonderful music today. People who are living the same lives we're living and in touch with popular culture, incorporating the elements of rock and jazz and so on into what they call their new classical music," said Nakahara.

Nakahara is the third candidate to come to Peoria. He will guest conduct the symphony on Saturday night at the Peoria Civic Center.

He's currently the conductor of a symphony in Columbia, South Carolina.
