Undercover Drug Sting in Peoria

By WEEK Producer

In the last four days, Peoria police arrested 23 men and women on felony drug charges.

It's part of an undercover investigation police have been working on throughout the summer.

A sergeant with Peoria's vice squad says the drug market on Peoria's South Side is stronger than ever. He says besides the usual drugs like cocaine and marijuana, heroin is more prevalent than it's been in years.

"We're seeing a lot more heroine coming into the city, it's cheaper and what we're being told is the effects of the drug last longer," said Sgt. Michael Eddlemon with Peoria Police.

At ten on WEEK news 25, in an exclusive report, Ashley McNamee will tell you more about the undercover drug program and what residents think. And there's a twist, hear why some of the dealers they caught could get a break.
