A PACKED HOUSE MONDAY NIGHT IN WASHINGTON, ILLINOIS FOR A TOWN HALL MEETING ON HEALTH CARE REFORM.

18TH DISTRICT CONGRESSMAN AARON SCHOCK CALLED FOR THE GATHERING AFTER DEMOCRATS IN THE HOUSE AGREED ON THEIR VERSION OF A REFORM BILL.

IT WAS A HEATED TOWN HALL DISCUSSION ON HEALTHCARE.
SO MANY PEOPLE SHOWED UP AT FIVE POINTS, THAT STAFF HAD TO MOVE THE GROWD ACROSS THE HALL TO A 1200 PERSON AUDITORIUM.
I WOULD ESTIMATE THERE WAS ABOUT 1100 IN ATTENDANCE.

CONGRESSMAN SCHOCK OUTLINED TO CONSTITUENTS, BOTH THE DEMOCRATS HEALTHCARE BILL AS WELL AS ONE HE CO–SPONSORED.
HE SAID THE DEMOCRATS HOUSE BILL THAT WAS ALMOST 2000 PAGES LONG COMES AT A PRICE OF ALMOST A TRILLION DOLLARS.
AND WILL BE PAID FOR BY VARIOUS REVENUE STREAMS THAT WILL HURT BUSINESS OWNERS AND UNION WORKERS WHO FORGO PAY RAISES FOR BETTER HEALTHCARE COVERAGE.
HE SAYS HIS BILL LOWERS HEALTHCARE PREMIUMS BY CREATING COMPETITION AND ALLOWING RESIDENTS TO GO ACROSS STATE LINES FOR INSURANCE COVERAGE.
HE SAYS HIS BILL COMES AT A PRICE TAG OF 300 BILLION DOLLARS AND LACKS A PUBLIC OPTION.
MANY IN ATTENDANCE SEEMED TO SUPPORT SCHOCK'S PROPOSED BILL....EVEN SAYING THEY WERE INSULTED DEMOCRATIC LEGISLATORS ARE TRYING TO PUSH A BILL SO QUICKLY.
"SOMETIMES IT JUST COMES DOWN TO THE FACT SOME OF YOUR ELECTED PEERS ARE RIPE WITH ARROGANCE, AND THAT THEY THINK THAT WE WORK FOR THEM RATHER THAN THEY WORK FOR US."
OTHERS SAID THE CONGRESSMAN CHERRY–PICKED POINTS FROM THE DEMOCRATIC BILL TO SUPPORT HIS AGENDA.

"I FOUND THAT YOU SUMMARIZED YOUR PART OF – OR YOUR BILL THAT YOU'RE SUPPORTING – BY OUTLINING THE POSITIVE ASPECTS OF IT – SOME OF WHICH I BELIEVE ARE INCLUDED IN THE HOUSE BILL. BUT THEN YOU SEEM TO GO ON AND YOUR FIRST AND MOST MAJOR COMPLAINT ABOUT THE HOUSE BILL WAS THE LENGTH OF IT – THE 1900 PAGES. THAT SEEMS TO ME INCONSEQUENTIAL IN TERMS OF ACTUALLY GETTING SOMETHING DONE."

SCHOCK SAYS LEGISLATORS ARE SCHEDULED TO VOTE OF THE PELOSI BILL ON FRIDAY...BUT IF LAWMAKERS DOESN'T PASS IT, SCHOCK SAYS CONGRESS WILL RE–CONVENE ON SATURDAY AND THAT THE SESSION COULD GO INTO SUNDAY.

It is not about healthcare anymore, it is about Obama and the liberals wanting to show the people who is boss. YES, we need affordable healthcare, the billions in fraud must be eliminated, a healthcare plan by the people, for the people must be done instead of the farce that congress keeps coming up with! READ the proposed programs, the only way you will know, Obama is loeing, YOU decide!

Here's an idea...why not craft a healthcare bill that simply insures the uninsured who need (and want) insurance? According to several reports there are 46-million uninsured. Almost half of them are illegal aliens and wouldn't be legally eligible for benefits anyway. So that leaves a real number of about 25-million uninsured. About half of THOSE people are young professionals who chose not to buy insurance. So we're really talking about 13-million who need health insurance. That's it!

Many of you are debating the wrong premise. The debate you SHOULD be having is whether federal politicians have the constitutional authority to force you to pay for a government run healthcare system. They do not. Your freedom is being taken away and many of you are willingly allowing it so that you can have a "freebie" - which isn't free, by the way. You will all be paying considerably higher taxes to pay for this government take-over of 1/6th of the nation's economy.

What does the Schock bill actually do that helps people get insurance? Does it limit the profitability of insurance companies? Does it require insurance companies to insure everyone regardless of pre-existing conditions? Does it offer financial assistance to low income people? Allowing people to cross state lines should be done by taking away the anti trust exemption that insurance companies have. I have seen nothing from republicans that ask insurance companies to give a little.

It was a huge audience and Congressman Schock handled all the questions thoughtfully and maintained a respectful atmosphere. He clearly has done his homework and is principled. I came away reassured we have a great congressman.

Lawyers make out like bandits as usual on pages 1431-1433, where there is a financial incentive for states to try “alternative medical liability laws.” But look — you don’t get the incentive if you have a law that would “limit attorneys’ fees or impose caps on damages.” So much for any savings with tort reform...
