Peoria County Sheriff Faces Challenger in Primary

Peoria County Sheriff Mike McCoy wil face a challenger in the Republican primary.

It's the first time McCoy has been challenged in a primary.

Peoria police lieutenant Vince Wieland submitted paperwork with the county just in time for today's filing deadline. Wieland is a longtime Peoria police officer and former district 150 board member.

McCoy had recently come under fire for his department's handling of a traffic accident involving his son, who is also a Peoria County Deputy.

the preferential treatment given to his son is the begining of the end to his political career as sheriff. i think it will be a landslide in Wieland's favor. mccoy brags about his accomplishments such as camera bonding or whatever. the county would have initiated this even if barney fife was sheriff. hell, he could do better.

it's time for a new sheriff in peoria county. it's not only the fiasco with his son(that put the icing on the cake)its many other things. his deputies are incompetent. if you are related to any of them and have a problem, you're screwed, even if you are not at fault. it's time for the status quo to be put to restand MOVE ON!

McCoy has done a good job and runs a good depatement, lets face it pcso has little problems and takes care of them when something happens. Ill vote for McCoy! Ask any Peoria cop what they think of Vince Wieland, he has costed the city millions alone in law suits due to his incompetence.

His son is a solid police officer and has taken a lot of scum off the streets in Peoria. I think I read other agencies responded also to the accident. McCoy is right for Peoria County.

thanks for your service mike, but its time to go. your preferential treatment of your son will cost you another re-election. your son should have been treated like everyone else, and he wasnt. that wont sit well with voters i am afraid, including me.
