Pekin Water Tower Undergoing Maintenance

A water tower in Pekin is temporarily out of service due to maintenance.

To ensure quality water service, the Illinois-American water tower on Rainbow Drive is undergoing routine cleaning to prepare for a new coat of paint.

Workers are power-washing the tower today to get it ready for a coat of white paint in a few days.

The inside of the tower has already been sand-blasted before it will be painted as well.

Even though the water tower is dry right now, some neighbors say they haven't noticed much of a pressure change with their water service.

The work should be complete within the next two weeks.

"It's out of service and that's why we do it at this time of year when there's lower usage-so it's less inconvenience to our customers, says Karen Cotton, Illinois-American Water spokesperson. "We are making sure we have a tank available to pump pressure so we can continue with fire protection and water service. So there's little inconvenience to our customers if at all. "

The tower will have the new star logo painted on it as well.
Maintenance should be completed within the next two weeks.
The tower will be back in service a day after completion.
