East Peoria Man Accused of Defrauding the Government

An East Peoria man is being sought internationally for defrauding the government.

Jalal Nimer Asad, who operated Sheridan Liquors in Peoria and three other businesses, is accused of hiding four million dollars from the Government.

Asad, along with a business associate, is accused of evading the federal law that requires large cash transactions to be reported to the U.S. Treasury.

A warrant is out for Asad's arrest...but his whereabouts are unknown.

This picture is from an "Interpol" website, and identified Asad as being from Jordan.

Are you asking why the government didn't come forward and tell Jalal they were investigating him...It is called the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. The burden of proof is on the prosecution, which has to collect and present enough compelling evidence to convince the trier of fact, who are restrained and ordered by law to consider only actual evidence and testimony that is legally admissible, and in most cases lawfully obtained, that the accused is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

This man I know from buying cigarettes from the liquor store for my elderly neighbor. He cashed checks from someone in her family who didn't have authorization to do so and then charged her 25 dollars 8 times in one day for a bounced check and the bank let him do this for several days this man is a crook and I hope he gets what he deserves.
