Union leaders at Bloomington's G-E plant say they're ready for a fight.

This after the company announced plans today to close the plant by the end of 2010.

Our top story this Friday evening is proof the recession still has a hold on the local job market.

Citing a slow economy, officials at GE Consumer & Industrial announced plans to shutter the plant by the end of 2010.

But, union officials from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers intend to fight the closing.

The Bloomington facility employs 96 people - 85 hourly workers and 11 salaried. About 60 percent will be eligible for a GE retirement package if the plant closes.

The local plant, which opened in 1955, is among 20 in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Mexico that are operating well under capacity according to GE.
