One of Illinois Governor Pat Quinn's Republican opponents in the governor's race says it's time for the state to stop borrowing and live within its means.

Former Illinois Republican Chairman Andy McKenna was in Peoria Wednesday talking to small business owners.

Afterwards he and his proclaimed running mate Matt Murphy stopped by News 25 to talk to us about creating a government the state can afford.Tax revenues went up but politicians in Springfield had spending go up even higher.

"And you can't do that in business. You go out of business if that happens. And so I think a business person can go down there and put a stake in the ground and say we have got to live with in our means, we have to have a government we can afford," said Andy McKenna, Republican candidate for Governor.

McKenna says he would –not– increase spending above the rate of inflation and would cut waste line–by–line like the current 2–and–a–half million dollars in funding for the Lieutenant Governor's office, even though the state does not currently have a Lieutenant Governor.

McKenna and Murphy also say that too much power is in the hands of too few people in Springfield. So they want to put term–limits on leadership posts and support redistricting reform.
