The Illinois General Assembly returns to Springfield for the fall Veto Session tomorrow and money is still on the minds of the legislators.
Governor Pat Quinn announced today that the state needs to borrow a billion dollars to get pay bills though February of next year. The Governor would help pay for the MAP Grants for college students which the General Assembly approved, but provided no funding for.
Meanwhile, local legislators met today with Chamber of Commerce officials...looking at local road building projects. But, Senator Martin Sandoval says the General Assembly is going to have to find new sources of revenue first. Senator Sandoval stated, "all that is on hold until we find the revenue stream for the capital projects. And so, if it's not going to be video poker, then we have to find a new revenue stream, and there seems to be a lot of support for substituting video poker with a motor fuel tax increase."
Local legislators are being lobbied by Central Illinois businesses to push ahead with the 635-million dollar Central Illinois bypass project which will connecti the North side of Peoria to the east side of the Illinois River.
