A McLean County woman is the first confirmed death due to H-1-N-1 influenza in central Illinois.

The 56-year-old woman died yesterday at a local hospital.

She was admitted on October 16th and transferred to the intensive care unit on the 19th.
The McLean County Health Department communicable disease staff learned the woman had underlying medical conditions.

McLean County Health Department Health Promotion Program Manager Jan Morris says, "We will continue to stress that people follow the same guidelines that you would to prevent the seasonal influenza."

The McLean County Health Department is encouraging everyone to clean off office and household surfaces frequently because the virus can stay on hard surfaces for up to eight hours.

McLean County will hold its second H1N1 clinic on Thursday October 29th... after receiving their third shipment of the vaccine.

I think it's in poor taste, considering the article is reporting a death. It just seems wrong... disrespectful. However, I have no problem with it being associated with pigs, as the virus combination is mostly swine, affects swine and they believe started with swine! It's SAFE to eat pork, however.

Well Lily, like the old saying goes, if i told you to jump of a bridge, would you do it? I'm happy to say I got my swine flu shot today at the Tazwell County shot clinic...if it's about population control, why would they be having our doctors and healthcare workers get it first...so all you that are left can die of whatever you may contract and not have any healthcare workers to help you? We really must get a vaccine for stupidity, some of you are in need!

The internet states on some sites that the avian flu is the bird flu/I take it separate from the swine. The swine is from pigs...so my question is this...What's going around the swine flu or bird flu?? If the government was so concerned about us getting sick don't u think they would of came out with vaccines earlier?? ie..katrina?? I think this is just about population control. I heard that shot causes brain damage. Again pop control.

A woman in our county died can we focus on that and not on the visual. You all seem to care more about the pig than the human that died. Heck that pig in the photo is probably still alive or you ate him.

Focus on the news story at hand not the picture people! The poor woman dies and all you can think to do is complain about a visual. Seems like you care more about the pig than the human being in our county that died, get your priorities straight!

to all you pig huggers, I think you need some education on H1N1 the original name is SWINE FLU it originated from pigs and the first human contracted it from a pig. They changed the name to H1N1 shortly after they broke the news to the country because pig lovers are more concerned with the name than the actual illness. I think you all need to get your priorities straight and focusing on prevention instead of what its called!!!! We are not dumb we still eat pork!!!!!!!!!!

I agree the picture is tasteless...but it is also erroneous. It is H1N1...not swine flu! The H1N1 is actually a quadrant combination of swine, avian, and human genetics. Therefore it is no more correct to call it swine flu as it is to call it avian flu. Check it out on the CDC website!

Really? This is the best visual you could come up with? A small child could have done better. To say I am disappointed would be an understatement. I expected better.

It use to be that one had to be qualified and have a certain level of intellect beore making decisions. WEEK has shown it no longer applies. It must be who you know. Unfortunately in this case who you know must eb pig headed. The pig is smarter than the pig headed.

not, only that but the h1n1 virus did not kill that lady, she probably got pneumonia or something then died. they need 2 be treating the bronchitis with pneumonia along with swine. just dont treat the swine. My heart goes out to the family.

This is terrible to show a pig with this article. The swine flu has NOTHING to do with pork products, and this irresponsible reporting is hurting the pork industry and farmers!!!!
