Pekin Holiday Inn Express on Fire

The Holiday Inn Express at 3615 Kelly Avenue in Pekin caught fire around 9:30 Friday morning.

It is now under control and under investigation.

Hotel officials say they were alerted to smoke on the roof by a hotel occupant. The hotel manager says the alarm did not go off.

Pekin Fire Chief Kurt Nelson says the fire was in the attic and the roof did collapse.

There were approximately 10 residents and 12 employees in the building at the time. All were evacuated safely.

News 25 will have complete reports on its 5:00 and 6:00 newscasts.

we were sitting at breakfast friday morning at 9:45 when 2 people ran in & said the building was on fire. what a surreal moment. luckily we had packed our car before we went to eat. we ran out to our car, my aunt, husband & our 2 kids. sat in the parking lot next door & watched the whole roof go up in flmes. what a shame. really nice hotel & nice people working. so glad no one was hurt.

THe question is: why didn't the alarm go off? This is a fire department and state fire marshall issue and needs to be resolved for the safety of all who use motels, hotels, restaurants. I'll be waiting to hear the findings.

Just left Pekin about 15 mins ago and it is still burning pretty good still 3 hook and ladders over there. It looked to me like the entire roof is gone and most of the second floor is going to be a total loss. Such a shame was a nice hotel and fairly new
