From the outside, Cameron Courson's garage looks like any other. This 14-year-old Peoria Heights student transformed it into a haunted house.

Just by talking to him, It's pretty easy to tell Halloween is one of his favorite holidays.

"Halloween I think is cool because you get candy and you get to scare people," said Courson.

But Courson didn't just build a haunted house to scare people, he also wanted to give back to an organization he volunteers for.

"There's a canned food drive coming up, why don't we just donate all the profits to the South Side Mission," he said.

Courson's Mom, Kelly, says even she was impressed by the amount of time Cameron put into it.

"From three in the afternoon to 8 at night he is out here working. On the weekends he is out here from the time he wakes up to the time he goes to bed," she said.

Cameron's haunted house will be open Oct. 23 and 24 from 7 to 11 at 805 Sciota Street in Peoria Heights.

Admission $3 a person, $2 if you bring a canned good.

I love the idea that teenagers and children do something to give back to their community. As the mother of the son who is collecting blankets for the less fortunate in the Manito area, I know how proud you must be mom.
