A 13-month old boy from Normal is at a Peoria Hospital after police say he was abused by his mother's boyfriend. Arron Benschneider, 22 from Normal, was charged Monday with one count of aggravated battery of a child.

Normal Police were notified last Thursday by personnel at the Peoria hospital about some suspicious injuries to the baby boy.

"We're at this point trying to determine what injuries were the result of the immediate contact. The incident that took place most recently. There are injuries on the child that appear to be over a period of time, weeks maybe even months ago. At this point, that's still under investigation," Normal Police Chief Kent Crutcher says.

Police say Benschneider lived with the boy and his mother in a home on the 100 block of West Shelbourne.

Benschneider is being held in the McLean County Jail on $200,000 bond.

Police describe the boy's injuries as significant but not life threatening. DCFS is also investigating.

Meanwhile, police have arrested a Tinley Park man for aggravated criminal sexual assault after an alleged incident at a Normal hotel two weekends ago. William Gustafson, 37, also faces kidnapping and battery charges.

Police say Gustafson and the male victim came to Normal for the weekend. Gustafson was picked up in Kansas and is being transferred back to McLean County to be officially charged.

Dcfs has a history of going after innocent people or letting kids go back to homes that they never should go back to. I would not trust dcfs as far as I could throw them.

I'd like to know why they arent looking at the mother and why she isnt in jail along with him..why do people automatically assume its the boyfriend? he isnt the only one living in that house and if the mother was fully attentive to her son she'd notice those types of bruises unless she did it or was neglecting him and is trying to force blame on someone else. there are 2 sides to every story and he is INNOCENT until PROVEN guilty

Julie...you are a very naive and blinded person, if you think for 1 minute that the police and dcfs do not "make" the so called evidence "work" their way...it happens, it is scarey and I hope it never happens to you..as far as having children, I do and love them with all my heart (YOU have no right to say anything different to me!) and I would never let anything or anyone hurt them, but velieve me, if I believe

You really think Police & DCFS turn things around as if they have nothing better to do.As if they dont already have enough to deal w/. To say they twist "simple" things . That "simple" thing is a child . Do me a favor if you are this dumb dont ever have kids. You dont deserve them if this is your way of thinking !

And you do it once and the child acts in pain...you should know better to be more careful the next time you play. I agree, you can be pushed to confess after 6 hours of interrogation, but if he truly didnt do anything, he would have stuck with that answer and not open the door for possibility. He is guilty of something.

He confessed to the possibility that he played too rough and could have hurt him. He didnt think he did any damage and wouldnt have meant to purposely do anything....my opinion is that we dont intend to do anything but sometimes horrible things happen and you should still be held accountable. If he is truly responsible, he has anger issues. Its been happening for several months according to injuries. You dont cause multiple fractures by playing a little rough....you are being down right cruel.

Maybe just maybe..the police and dcfs turned the information around and made it fit to what they wanted it to be..keep an open mind about anything reported, they can make a simple thing into a mountain..information is twisted...
